kyallb (Kyoufuu All Back)
The Vocaloid genre in Taiko for 2023 has seen a slightly more varied carnet when compared to some of the previous years' offerings between #C.O.M.P.A.S.S. and DECO*27 songs' hegemony. We could even cross out one more digital singer across the board, as Taiko welcomed the first song coming from... a literal child Vocaloid, of all things!
The Kaai Yuki voice bank made its debut in early December 2009 under the VOCALOID2 engine from AH-Software Co. Ltd., making the notorious distinction of being the very first Vocaloid whose recorded lines were not coming from an adult. Indeed, this digital 9-aged Vocaloid being described "as tall as 10 big apples, as heavy as 86 apples" owes her voice from someone who (at the time) was a 4th grader herself, thus making impossible on a legal perspective to ever reveal the voice provider's identity, even if said indivudual eventually attended (always in anonymous form) at Kaai Yuki anniversary celebrations online, later down the road. The unique voice-giver situation has also proven to be quite the hassle to work around for the later Kaai Yuki voice bank release in 2015 under the VOCALOID4 engine, for which a different voice actress was picked to do the growl components, as re-sampling from the already-matured original voice provider was an unfeasable path to walk on.
Donning quite the unique original English title of "Hair Swept Back By Gale-Force Winds", Yukopi's Kyoufuu All Back was released halfaway on March last year with multiple accolade and noteworthy remarks around it, both related and not to the larger Taiko sphere. For starters, after reaching the Hall of Fame status in just two weeks, the song has managed to become the longest-standing consecutive top ranker in Nicovideo's Weekly VOCALOID Ranking (週刊VOCALOIDランキング Shuukan VOCALOID Ranking) chart with 9 weeks in a row, topping the previous shared-record-contenders (with 4 weeks each) of the Hatsune Miku-powered Otome Kaibou and Ghost Rule, both already in Taiko gaming for the longest time... It goes without saying, but it reached the Hall of Legend status just as quickly, within a couple of months' span! Another curious trivia surrounding the song is that its composer Yukopi has also made a Kyoufuu All Back parody self-cover for a CM campaign for Nissin Foods' Seafood Cup Noodles under the name of "Natsu wa Kukotte Seafood-hen", thus making it the second Vocaloid song in Taiko gaming with advertising ties to Nissin Foods... the first one also being an Hatsune Miku song, as well!
Notechart-wise, this is as plain as your average 1/16 chart can lend itself to, not very dissimilar to the Oni setting for several Anime licenses or the lower-BPM side of the iDOLM@STER spectrum. With the only shift in reading speed being reserved for slower-flowing drumroll markers, this is a nice place as any to practice one's handswitching skills due to the repeating charting formations and the overall laid-back pace of the song itself.
