If a fish-based diet for some of our readers might aid their mnemonic capabilities, our very first Song of the Week for 2022 was about another of Kenshi Yonezu's songs that were set for a permanent disappearance across the Taiko no Tatsujin franchise. Wonder of all wonders, that's also how we're going to end the same year as one of the two latest perma-removals is another song from the same artist!
Named after the iconic hand gesture, Peace Sign was released in advance as the first opening theme for the My Hero Academia Anime show's 2nd season on late April 2017, receiving its single debut on June 21st of the same year and boasting top scoring across Oricon's Weekly debut charts, alongside the greatest amount of unit solds for the artist's music discography up to that point in his carreer. The song was actually already worked on by the author since the spring of 2016, but got reworked once Yonezu was hired to do an opening theme for the ongoing My Hero Academia Anime transposition. Being a MHA manga reader himself and strong of how 'generation-defining' his former Anime contribution Butter-fly was (another Taiko-playable song, too!), the author tried to follow that 'monumental' kind of feel left by his other work while reworking his earlier craft into the finalized product. The single came out alongside the original song Yume Kouishi Youju (ゆめくいしょうじょ ), a rare self-made bootleg of one of his former Vocaloid works from when he was known online as Hachi, Sagami no Yumekoi Shoujo (沙上の夢喰い少女).
We end 2022 just as we started it: with a middling 7-star Oni challenge for the modern standards. It's faster and with about twice the notes as Lemon's Oni chart, so it's not a completely sleepwalk either!
