Song of the Week! 18 June 2022

Adding another line to the "forever gone" records in Taiko history is one song from an ongoing LEVEL-5 franchise, one that hasn't been a stranger of this blog in the past either...

The Yo-kai Watch franchise has had quite the unique twist and turns to follow, once that the popularity of the source videogames and the original Anime series' popularity started to fade worldwide. At first, starting from late-2017 to the following year, it tried to pursue a slightly-more mature audience with a darker "sequel series" of sorts, with the Yo-kai Watch Shadowside (妖怪ウォッチ シャドウサイド) movie and Anime series to boot. In 2019, however, another roll of dice was made in order to revert the IP back to its juvenile and gag-focused antics that the original series was known for, with the 36-episodes-long Yo-kai Watch! (妖怪ウォッチ!) series. From the title down to its opening and ending themes, you can tell how "start from scratch to move on" was the direction taken before the ongoing series direction, with the Yokai Academy Y entries!

Playing with a laughing onomatopoeia much like the original Geragerapo no Uta, Kerakeraho no Uta is performed by the Avex Vanguard-contracted J-pop artist Hiroki Maekawa (前川 紘毅), opting for an original song rather than a remix from the analogue of the original anime's run, which -on the other hand- is what happened to the ending theme of YW!, being a remix of the same Yokai Taisou Dai-ichi to end the original Anime. In turn, Taiko gaming gets the next kid-friendly, full-1/12-tempo song to call back to Yume o Kanae te Doraemon, minus the longer-than-usual clusters. As of this writing, however, you have about one month left to play it on the arcades before it's gone for good!
