Taiko no Tatsujin 3DS 2 (work-in-progress) fan-translation patch!
Those in the know on the 3DS scene will know that the console has been recently um...blown wide open. Questionable things aside, it allows for patches to be applied to games, creating things like this!
A huge fan of Taiko no Tatsujin, tiduscrying, recently emailed me with a little scoop on what his fan-translation patch looks like; which is, as of right now, a simple case of swapping menu graphical assets and text from Japanese to English. Obviously, getting to the graphics files in games are hard. In the progress video above you'll see some menus in JP and some in English. Worth noting that all this works even with legitimate DLC in the game!
A few clipping issues aside, this all looks pretty darn interesting and authentic. tiduscrying also wants to try his hand at translating the RPG mode; that's going to be quite the effort! Though, even just with the menu translation, I can already see it helping a lot of international Taiko players enjoy the game better!
You can follow the project on its page at GBAtemp.
