Song of the Week! 14 September 2019

You can tell this near-ending week was an uneventful one for Taiko gaming in general, considering that this is our very first instance in (over) 9 years of blogging action where there's not any other kind of news-related post between the previous Song of the Week entry and the most recent release!

Let's match the tone with a quick pick.

The yearly meme 'Cirno Day' for Touhou fans has occurred last Monday, and it just so happens that we have one last song in Taiko gaming concerning the simple-minded freeze fairy from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and her theme song, whose popularity skyrocketed with one of IOSYS' most popular arrangements and all its derivates across the years. So much so that the unit has made an entire album about her!

Released on October 14th, 2017 for the 4th Autumn edition of the Reitaisai Touhou convention, the popular doujin circle has released the Touhou Ice and Snow (東方氷雪大感謝) album as one of the ending steps made for the celebration of the 9th anniversary since the release of Cirno's Perfect Math Class, including the 9th Anniversary version of said song which was made playable in arcade music gaming (Taiko no Tatsujin very much included!) as well as another slew of arrangements from both IOSYS artists and other active performers in the Touhou doujin circle action, all based on the Stage 2 boss track -Tomboyish Girl in Love (おてんば恋娘)- which stars Cirno as the boss to face. Ganzo! Genius Cirno-chan is one of those tracks that are originating from the Touhou Ice and Snow album, starring Taiko-recurring composer Yuuya Kobayashi as well as Alternative Ending's miko, already singer in both versions of Cirno's Perfect Math Class as well as selected Namco Originals in Taiko.

Funnily enough, this kind of simultaneous album tie-in hasn't only happened in Taiko alone; it just so happens that, in (roughly) the same time span, all the arcade-oriented music games who joined IOSYS's Cirno-based anniversary all got a different song from the same album as well as the 9th anniversary version of Cirno's Perfect Math Class, with CHUNITHM getting its exclusive inclusion only the year after, in 2018. It's also easy to spot them in each series: they all use the same album jacket art of the 9th Anniversary version of Cirno's Perfect Math Class! Below are the other tracks from the same album that managed to hop across different game series:
Old-style charting is on the order of the day for Ganzo! Genius Cirno-chan's Oni mode, as repeated note pattern stanzas with slight increments are styling like in the very early days of Bandai Namco's drumming franchise. Within different tempo signatures and the taxing stamina tall, however, it's easy to slip off in your first attempts due to the generous amount of notes!
