Literature Review: Arcade Taiko no Tatsujin Drum Theft in Kitanagoya, Aichi

Disclaimer: Please don't steal anything. Like, ever.
On April 29 2019, a Taiko no Tatsujin arcade drum was snatched from an arcade center in Kitanagoya, Aichi. Security camera footage shows that two persons are involved in the heist, with one unscrewing one side of the drum while the other (pretends to?) plays on the other. The loose drum is then bagged and taken away by the two in broad daylight. Speculated motives include the desire to recreate the authentic arcade experience at home, or the high resell value that near-authentic Taiko parts usually fetch in auction sites. The incident has since been escalated to the local police for investigation, and spotlight on the local news like the clip above.

The news also created traction on Twitter where the original security footage was copy-pasted by multiple users (with less blurred faces than above). This is also where some English-language press picked up the incident, for example:

Since then, the arcade company has expressed desire for the sharers to take down the copy-pasted tweets, as they were seeking police intervention. Most of those initially shared has complied and put out a brief statement like this one:
