Twitter Snippets (25 January 2018) - No More Pack DLCs for Taiko Plus

Following up the deletion notice for the Taiko PSP games' downloadable content, more news about long-lasting DLC services coming to an end for Taiko titles have surfaced through Taiko Plus in-app notices, such as the screen captured in the tweet shown above.

In the near future, the Taiko no Tatsujin Plus app will see the removal of every single song pack release that has ever been made for the i-device version thus far; those who have already bought and downloaded the songs on their game version can still play the owned tracks to the heart's desire, but once that the packs have been removed from the servers, these cannot be re-downloaded anymore. Users from the Japanese Taiko wiki Wikihouse are stating that the mass song pack removal will occur in late February, but as we don't have any visual evidence to show on this regard, we'll be waiting for the official announcement of the removal date.

Together with the song packs for the i-device version of the game, both it and the Android version will see the removal of the Lucky Draw side mode on the same day, formerly used for in-game rewards in conjunction to the Lottery system.

Thanks to Taiko no Tatsujin Discord user Bankslammer for the find!

  1. I feel pretty bad about this. It's not just about the money. Yes, I spent a ton of money buying the majority of packs on iOS before the subscription was offered (I think there were only 4 or 5 that I didn't own).

It's weird because I always knew the app could go away randomly one day and I would lose it all, but that idea didn't bother me so much as the app continuing on but just arbitrarily removing features, which has been steadily happening in the last year or so.

I can fully understand not offering packs for purchase anymore (who does that when we can just get the sub?) but removing a "restore purchases" button and not being able to re-download already purchased stuff is the real kicker.

Especially in comparison to how Taito handles GrooveCoaster. I can still redownload songs I purchased four years ago, even though they stopped selling the pack thereafter because they no longer had the rights to the songs.

And frankly that's what bothers me, many songs I love are still not available on the subscription service. I consider the Plus version to be my favorite Taiko version of all time (and one I still play daily!), mostly for its huge library of songs, but also for the little social features and whatnot. But piece by piece they're stripping it all away.

I suppose nothing that good could last forever.
